Tkuma Center hosts German Diplomat Print E-mail
  On March, 6 Mr. Jean-Pierre Froehli, the First Secretary of German Embassy in Ukraine visited Tkuma Center. Tkuma has been supporting regular contacts with German Embassy, but it was the first visit of German diplomat to Dnepropetrovsk office of Tkuma Central Ukrainian Holocaust Foundation.

 

Mr. Froehli held a meeting with Igor Shchupak, the director of Tkuma Center and Amir Ben-Zvi, the director of JDC programs in Eastern Ukraine.

 

As is well known, German diplomatic mission supports humanitarian projects and actively promotes the atmosphere of tolerance in society, opposition to xenophobia and anti-Semitism. Last year in Kiev Tkuma administration had meeting with Dietmar Studemann, German Ambassador to Ukraine. The latter has been presented the special diploma of Tkuma Center to appreciate his activity aimed at maintaining democratic values and opposition to anti-Semitism.

 

During negotiations in Dnepropetrovsk the parties touched upon various topics – JDC charitable activity and Tkuma scientific and pedagogical activity, the problems of international relations, the importance of educational and pedagogical work with youth on Holocaust teaching, historical memory forming and democratic values respect etc. During his visit to Tkuma Center museum hall Mr. Froehli listened with interest and excitement to the stories about the life of Jews of Ukraine together with Ukrainian, Russian, German and other nations, about Holocaust tragedy, about building in Dnepropetrovsk the Central museum of Holocaust history in Ukraine. German official emphasized that Tkuma activity is very important as well as the way it estimates Holocaust and its lessons, the main of which is to establish international dialogue and cooperation, encourage the principles of democracy and tolerance in society, irresponsible opposition to xenophobia and anti-Semitism. While discussing specific directions of Tkuma Center cooperation with

 

German Embassy, Mr. Froehli marked that German side has special interest in a number of Tkuma projects, including –

“Lessons of Holocaust – Lessons of Tolerance” International competition of creative works of students and pupils;

"Inter- and Multi-disciplinary Approaches to the Holocaust, and Their Application to Ukraine" Tkuma Vth International Scholars Conference to be held in September this year in Kiev;

International seminars for teachers.

 

German diplomat added that Tkuma scientific and educational activity would receive comprehensive help and support of German Embassy.
