The International Creative Works Competition for pupils, students and teachers

 

«Lessons of Holocaust lessons of Tolerance»

 

 

Regulations of Competition

 

1. Aim of the Competition:

·  Help to comprehend preconditions, mechanism and consequences of the Holocaust;

·  Learn the lessons of the Holocaust to realize the problems of contemporary evolution of a person and society;

·  Create innovative approach on Holocaust teaching, extend advanced experience in Holocaust teaching in Ukraine and other countries.

 

2. Tasks of the Competition:

§  To evoke interest in cognitive and research activity in the area of historical and public branches of knowledge;

§  To involve teachers, students and pupils in study, research and teaching the Holocaust history;

§  To form tolerant consciousness, based on democratic and humanistic principles, to be aware of the danger of chauvinistic, neo-Nazi, anti-Semitic spirits.

 

3. Participants of the Competition can be:

Ø  Pupils of higher school (in the 8-11 grades), school, college;

Ø  Students of college, university;

Ø  Teachers of schools, specialized schools, lectors of higher educational establishments, post-graduate students.

 

4. The Competition takes up:

1. Scholar works (of common character and subject);

2. Creative works (essay, narratives, verses, drawings and paintings, documentary and documentary-publicistic films, animation films, sites and others);

3. Research works (interviews, research based on study of local area or family materials and others);

4. Methodical aids on Holocaust teaching and tolerance.

 

5. The subjects of the works can be related to following issues:

- the fate of Jews of Hitler Germany and occupied Europe;

- life and straggle in ghetto and concentration camps;

- Opposition movement during Holocaust (active and passive opposition, examples of heroism as well);

- life-saving of Jews by the people of other nationalities (the Righteous among the Nations);

- society and Holocaust (psychological, social aspects);

- legal aspect related to the acts of Holocaust organizers and their accomplice (collaborators);

- my family during Holocaust;

- moral dilemmas during Holocaust;

- paying respects to the memory of the perished;

- lessons of Yanush Korchak;

- lessons of Raul Wallenberg;

- comprehension of Holocaust (philosophical, ethic, moral, theologian approach).

Teachers provide methodical aid on Holocaust: plans of the lessons, programs of optional courses, scripts of out-of-class activities, manuals, texts for sections in educational and methodical textbooks, atlases, maps, films etc.

Computer programs, multimedia projects and Web-sites can also be considered as competition works.

 

6. The title-page of the competition work should contain:

For pupils, students and post-graduate students:

1. Author’s name and last name.

2. Educational establishment, grade, year of study, group.

3. Teacher (name and last name, professional field).

4. Scientific consultant (name and last name, professional field).

 

For teachers, lectors and post-graduate students:

1. Author’s name and last name.

2. Place of work, position.

3.  Scientific consultant (name and last name, professional field).

 

7. Common positions

1. Works should be in Ukrainian, Russian or English;

2. The work should be accompanied by the application of participant of the Competition (see Supplement) that can be sent by e-mail.

3. The works sent are not reviewed and sent back.

4. Participants of the Competition give the right to Tkuma Center to publish the work in any form and translate it. If the work or its extracts are published, reference to the Competition of Tkuma Center is obligatory. If the work is published or cited, the author should be indicated.

5. While appreciating the work, the following aspects are taken into account: 

-  The way the work corresponds to the topic, aim and tasks;

-  Urgency and singularity of the problem raised;

Independent research of the problem, efficiency of research;

Scientific character, logicality;

Profundity of analysis, entirety of problem’s reflection;

- The quantity and quality of used materials, literary and documentary recourses, periodicals, archive materials, oral evidences, illustrations. ê³ëüê³ñòü òà ÿê³ñòü âèêîðèñòàíèõ ìàòåð³àë³â, ë³òåðàòóðíèõ òà äîêóìåíòàëüíèõ äæåðåë, ïåð³îäè÷íèõ âèäàíü, àðõ³âíèõ ìàòåð³àë³â, óñíèõ ñâ³ä÷åíü, ³ëþñòðàö³é.

8. Prizes

The best works are awarded by special Diplomas of three grades;

The works of winners are advisable to be published in scholar editions, collections of creative works etc;

The works of winners are advisable to participate in International competitions;

The winners of the Competition will receive valuable presents;

Participants and winners of the Competition will be invited to seminars, conferences, trainings, excursions and trips to the memorable places of Holocaust in Ukraine and other countries.

 

9. Terms and conditions of applying for the Competition:

1. Participants of the Competition should apply and send works till July, 1st 2006.

2. Summing up and awarding winners will take place in September 2006.
