PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

In June 1, 2018 “Tkuma” Institute research associates and educators visited Boyarka educational complex # 3 in Kyiv region with series of educational activities on teaching World War II and the Holocaust history.

Valentyn Rybalka, “Tkuma” Institute research associate presented the methodological features of mobile exhibitions devoted to various aspects of the Holocaust and other genocides history. During the master-class teachers learned about the newest approaches in comparative research of genocides, as well as with the solutions they provide to teacher for the practical work.

“Tkuma” Institute staff also presented new methodological and scholarly editions released by “Tkuma” Institute, which can significantly expand the methodological toolkit of history teachers.

Most of the questions asked by the seminar participants during the discussion addressed the problems of finding and developing motivation of student youth to research the complex and multidimensional issues of the history of the 20th c. The widespread use of the works of mass culture – cinematography, fiction – during the history lessons can serve as a key to solving this urgent task. They contribute to the development of emotional perception of the topic and stimulate cognitive activity of students. However, their application requires high professionalism and competence of the teacher, who should combine the emotionality of images of artistic works with the latest scholarly achievements in the study of this topic.

At the end of the event, “Tkuma” Institute staff conducted consultations with school students and teachers, who are now preparing research and art works for International Contest “Lessons of War and Holocaust – Lessons of Tolerance” with final event planned for the end of September 2018.
