PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

During January 26-27, all-Ukrainian scientific-practical seminar, dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day was held for teachers. The event was organized by “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies, Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Educators from all regions of Ukraine became participants of the educational program. Reports on the role of contemporary museums in national memory shaping (Dr. Igor Kocherhin, Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance), the display of the Holocaust in museum exhibitions and general issues of historical memory (Dr. Igor Shchupak); practical lesson on the methodology of working with sources during the preparation of museum exhibitions on World War II and the Holocaust history (Iryna Matkovska, Vinnitsa); guided tour at Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” waited for this event participants.

Presentation of the literary and musical composition “Kadish: Street to the Sky” was the special event, prepared by students of Severodonetsk secondary school №20 together with teacher Valerii Nehmatov. Mr. Valerii also gave to the Museum an extraordinary and unique gift – Menorah candlestick, which was made from a projectile. Thank you very much!

A screening of the film “Kadish” and a meeting with Konstantin Fam (USA), director, script writer and producer was held within the frameworks of the seminar. The film is about a young violinist from Moscow and a school teacher from New York, who accidentally received testament of a former prisoner of World War II concentration camp. The dark past is intertwined with the present, and changes the life and outlook of the main characters forever. In 2019 the film “Kadish” won the grand prix of the international film festival Eurasian Creative Guild Film Festival. In the same year, the film was selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for an extended list of applicants for the film award “Oscar” in the category “The Best Song” and “The Best Music”.

Presentation of the multimedia tutorial “The Holocaust investigation by bullets” – created by “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and scientific center Yahad-In Unum (France) became a special event. Julia Garmash, coordinator of Yahad-In Unum educational projects presented this methodical guide, which has already been translated into seven languages. Dr. Denys Shatalov, "Tkuma" Institute researcher prepared it’s Ukrainian scientific translation. It is very important that this edition received the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, so it can be used in all Ukrainian schools as a teaching tool.

At the end of the scientific-practical seminar, participants received official certificates.
