Projects for Teachers

On February 10, “Tkuma” Institute, Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” and “Orion” Publishing House held another historical webinar. Educational event “Let’s play cards. No. Maps are language and eyes of history” was dedicated to historical cartography and the use of maps in history lessons.

The webinar speakers were Iryna Krasutska – Editor-in-Chief of “Orion” Publishing House, Member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, “Triumph” International Prize Winner, Iryna Rudenko – Laureate of the State Prize in Science and Technology, Honorary Surveyor of Ukraine and Dr. Igor Shchupak. A special participant was Paul-Robert Magocsi – Canadian historian of Ukrainian descent, professor of history and political science, head of the Department of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Toronto (UofT), co-chair of the Academic Council of the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter (UJE), permanent member of the Royal Canadian Society (Canadian Academy of Sciences), author of more than 700 scientific works (Toronto.)

Following questions were discussed during the webinar: how historians create maps: Canadian and Ukrainian experience; convenient historical maps: “paper-based” or computer-based? history of Ukraine (or / and) world history: what does “Orion” publish? why is it (not) important to use maps? why do you need History Atlases, if there are maps in the textbook etc.
