On October 16, the round table “From the Union of Lublin to the European Union” organized due to close cooperation between the Dnipro Development Agency, Oles Honchar Dnipro National University and the Government of the City of Lublin (Poland) was held in Dnipro. The event was dedicated to anniversary date – 450- anniversary from the Union of Lublin formation.

Welcoming speech made prof. Serhii Svitlenko, dean of the history department of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, who emphasized the importance of Ukrainian-Polish cooperation, especially in the educational and scientific fields, and Krzysztof Lontka, director of the office of non-investment projects in Lublin City Hall. Dr. Oleh Repan became the moderator of the honorable forum.

Reports on the history of the Union of Lublin, as well as its significance and impact on the present were made during scientific event by historians, public and educational figures of Dnipro and Lublin. Prof. Yurii Sviatets, (history department of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University) spoke about the features of the emergence and functioning of Volyn (Rus) Metric, Dr. Andrzej Shabatyuk (John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin) focused on the religious communities of the Commonwealth during the XVI-XVII centuries, Dr. Oleh Repan paid attention to the “Commonwealth thing after the Commonwealth”; Krzysztof Stanowski, well-known human rights activist and dissident politician and public figure, spoke about the importance of the Union of Lublin for today, focusing on the principles shared by the Union of Lublin and the modern European Union. Dr. Igor Shchupak report was devoted to the history of the Union of Lublin features reflecting in school textbooks of Poland, Russia, Ukraine and their comparison. The reports aroused great interest among all presented at the event, and caused the active discussion, which continued even during the breaks.

At the end of the day Polish guests visited Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”, Dr. Yehor Vradii, deputy director held the guided tour (in Polish) to the guests.
