Projects for Teachers

On February 21-22, “Tkuma” Institute held regular regional “historical webinars” for teachers of the Sumy and Rivne regions. During online educational events, participants talked about the challenges facing Ukrainian historical education. They discussed the content of the new History Curricula adopted in 2022; ideas of the new Concept of historical education.

Many questions were raised about the prospects of the transition to teaching an integrated course of the history of Ukraine; transition from a linear approach to teaching history to a concentric one. Particular attention was paid to clarifying historical terms and concepts; modern methodology of studying the history of empires and national states; Holodomor, Holocaust and other genocides; of the modern russian-Ukrainian war.

The head of educational programs of “Tkuma” Institute, Iryna Piskariova, presented the multimedia works of the participants of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine and “Tkuma” Institute “Lessons of War and Holocaust – Lessons of Tolerance” Contest. The authors of these incredible creative works presented their vision of the Holocaust history and other genocides, drew parallels between t World War II and russia's modern aggression against Ukraine.

“The task of historians is to make sense of the past and the present, to strengthen historical memory and Ukrainian identity, – noted Dr. Igor Shchupak. – Because, the war begins in people's heads. The ideas of Communism, Nazism, Racism led to untold suffering of millions of people”.
