On the fourth Saturday of November, Ukraine and the world community will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of the Ukrainian people. On this occasion, on November 18, the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey (USA) organized a special event – the screening of the film “The Red Necklace” and its discussion. Dr. Igor Shchupak was invited to participate in the discussion.

The film by Ukrainian journalist Tetyana Kondrashevska was shot based on the memories of her grandmother Antonina Kovalenko, who survived the Holodomor. This is the story of a 9-year-old girl from the distant 1933, whose father, saving his daughter from starvation, almost died himself.

“Three years ago, my colleagues and I presented the film “The Red Necklace” at “Tkuma” Institute, – noted Dr. Shchupak. – And now the film was watched and discussed by the students of the Ukrainian school in the USA, who maintain contact with Ukraine. For this, we must thank the teachers of the school and the parents of the children, the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey, and the entire American Ukrainian community. History is a weapon. We must remember and fight for the future”.
