PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

Dniprovsky Historical Club is another "Tkuma" Institute project conducted on the base of Museum "Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine" in cooperation with Institute of Social Studies. Historical club was created as a platform for meetings of historians and those interested in history with the aim of informal communication. Famous Ukrainian and foreign historians are invited to participate in each session of the club.

Within the framework of the project meetings with Prof. Vladyslav Hrynevych, Doctor of Political Sciences, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Leading Research Associate of the Institute of Politican and Ethnic Studies; Prof. Ivan Patrylyak, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Department of Modern History of Ukraine, Dean of the Faculty of History of Kyiv National University, and Prof. Yaroslav Hrytsak, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Ukrainian Catholic University, Director of Institute of Historical Research of Franko Lviv National University were conducted.

The project attracts the attention of historians, teachers, students and the intellectual elite of the city. From 50 to 300 people participate in the sessions.

During the club meetings professional historians raise urgent problems of historical memory of the Jewish and Ukrainian peoples. Its main objective is to destroy the stereotypes that hinder the successful intergration of the Jewish community as an important part of Ukrainian society.


On June 11, 2017 within the framework of Dniprovsky Historical Club presentation of the Book “The Journey” by Ida Fink was conducted. The book was presented by author of Ukrainian translation, editor of Polish information portal Culture.pl Natalia Rymska (Warsaw). The event was organized with the help of partners – Polish Institute in Kyiv (we express special gratitude to the director of Institute Ewa Figel and Les Beley), Bookstore “Є” (art director in Dnipro Nadiia Vovk), friends from Oles Honchar Dnipro National University – Dr. Oleh Repan and Dr. Valeriia Lavrenko and all those who joined the presentation.

On January 26, 2017 session of Dniprovsky Historical Club dedicated to International Holocaust Remembrance Day was held. Luigi Toscano, photographer, director and creator of photo exhibition “Lest We Forget”, became the guest of the session.

November 11, 2016 “Tkuma” Institute organized and conducted regular session of Dniprovsky Historical Club dedicated to the peculiarities of Historical memory and World War II and the Holocaust in Ukraine and Germany at the beginning of 21 с. The session was moderated by Prof. Guido Hausmann (Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich, Germany) and Dr. Igor Shchupak, “Tkuma” Institute and the Holocaust Museum Director. The session was also joined by participants of the second German-Ukrainian Writers’ Meeting “A Paper Bridge” (in particular, Oksana Zabuzhko, Yuri Andrukhovych, Katharina Raabe, Sergei Zhuk, Natalka Snyadanko), Dnipro university students, and mass media.

On August 28, 2016 the regular session of Dniprovsky Historical Club was conducted. The session was conducted by Dr. I.Shchupak, “Tkuma” Institute and the Holocaust Museum Director, and Dr. Iegor Vradiy, “Tkuma” Institute and the Holocaust Museum Head of Research Department, and was dedicated to such important issues as de-communization in Ukraine and the historical memory of World War II and the Holocaust.

On February 21, 2016 the regular session of Dniprovsky Historical Club dedicated to the“Deportation as methods of genocide during World War II” was conducted. The session was held by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance employees: Dr. Serhiy Hromenko and Dr. Vasyl Pavlov.
