PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

During October 14-21, an international school for students and postgraduate students “Remembering Conflicts, Thinking about the Past: Writing History Together” took place in Georgia. The event was organized by Berlin Branch of the “Memorial” International Historical and Educational, Human Rights and Charitable Society, under the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Independent Fund “New Collection”. Maryna Strilchuk, researcher at the Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”, postgraduate student of the Historical Faculty of Dnipro National University, was invited to join the event.

The purpose of the project was to teach students to analyze the manipulation of historical facts and sources, to counteract the incitement of conflicts on the basis of historical memory; teach how to work with traumatic historical material, based on the principles of responsibility, the highest value of human life and dignity, respect for cultural diversity.

Teams of five students and postgraduates from Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, and Russia were selected to participate in the project in summer 2018. The first stage of the international project was held in Kyiv, where Ukrainian students from different cities discussed and prepared a presentation on how social sciences help to prevent a conflict on the historical ground. Oksana Dovgopolova, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Methodology of Cognition at the Odessa National University, was the Curator of the Ukrainian team.

The second stage of the international school was held in Georgia, where participants from different countries identified pain points and worked on the ways to understand the traumatic past. Development of paragraphs of the textbook on history that can be used in each of the participating countries became the main content of student work in international groups.
