PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On September 26-28, Warsaw (Poland) hosted the XXIII meeting of the Ukrainian-Polish Commission of Experts on Improving School Textbooks on History and Geography, which met live for the first time in the past few years. A Ukrainian delegation met with Polish colleagues in the premises of the Ministry of National Education: prof. Stanislav Kulchytskyi (Co-Chairman of the Commission), Raisa Yevtushenko, Roman Gladkovskyi, Dr. Igor Shchupak; Prof. Igor Hyrych and Dr. Yehor Vradii. Ukrainian educators studied new Polish history and geography textbooks; Polish colleagues studied Ukrainian ones.

In particular, Prof. Kulchytskyi carried out an in-depth analysis of the new Polish history textbooks. Dr. Karol Sanoytsa presented a review of the textbooks “World History” for the 10th grade by Pavel Polyanskyi, noting the clarity of the presentation of the material, good infographics, methodical apparatus, etc. Dr. Shchupak's world history textbook for 10th graders was analyzed by Prof. Grzegorz Motyka and Prof. Marek Kornat (Co-Chairman of the Commission from the Polish side). Prof. Piotr Kroll carried out a comparative analysis of history textbooks for the 6th grade – “classical” (authors Igor Shchupak, Olena Burlaka, Natalia Vlasova, Iryna Piskariova) and the textbook “Ukraine and the World: Introduction to History and Civic Education” (authors Igor Shchupak, Nataliya Vlasova, Dmytro Sekyrynskyi, Vladyslav Krongauz, Anastasia Posunko, Viktoriya Pavlovska-Kravchuk).

“The main provisions of the conclusions and recommendations of the Commission can be reviewed later on the resources of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine,” said Dr. Shchupak. – For me personally, the ideas of the experts of this Ukrainian-Polish Commission, as well as the Ukrainian-German Commission of Historians, the opinions of colleagues from other European countries, from Canada, the USA, provide rich material for improving textbooks and introducing special “curiosity”. What it is about – you can find out at our “historical webinars” or simply by reading/viewing the textbooks of “Orion” Publishing House.
