PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

During November 13–15, 2017 Khmelnytskyi hosted All-Ukrainian Scholarly and Practical Seminar for history teachers “Memory about the Holocaust: Ukrainian and Regional Dimension”, organized by “Tkuma” Institute, Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” under the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The seminar was opened by Dr. Yurii Mytrofanenko (Kropyvnytskyi), Dr. Roman Mykhalchuk (Rivne), and Coordinator of “Tkuma” Institute Educational Programs Iryna Piskariova. History teachers from different regions of Ukraine had the opportunity to present their own developments devoted to the methodology of teaching the history of the Second World War and the Holocaust, as well as researches on various aspects of “the final solution of the Jewish question” in Ukraine and memory about it.

In addition to teachers, during this educational event, Dr. Faina Vynokyrova (Vinnytsia) held a lecture-conversation devoted to participation of Jews in the resistance to Nazism, while Valentyn Rybalka, “Tkuma” Institute employee, told about features of presentation of the theme of the Holocaust and other genocides in the museum exposition. Within the framework of the seminar participants also joined open discussion “Features of tolerance education of youth in inclusive education” (moderated by deputy head of local secondary school Valentyna Malanchii) and a practical lesson on working with materials of Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” funds, conducted by Iryna Piskariova and her assistant Mykola Bulanyi. Participants also had the opportunity to meet with representatives of the NGO “International Foundation for Mutual Understanding and Tolerance”, moderated by chairman of the Vinnytsia Jewish religious community Isaac Novoseletskyi).

The seminar program included a rich out-door educational program: master-class on conducting educational commemorative lessons for senior school students and educational guided tour on the base of Khmelnytskyi and Starokostiantyniv Jewish history.

After summing up the seminar, teachers were awarded with official certificates.
