PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

From February 16-24, a seminar for Ukrainian educators, organized with participation of “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies was held at the International School for Holocaust Studies Yad Vashem (Jerusalem, Israel). Not only schools’ history and universities teachers were the seminar participants, but also historians, museologists, archivists from different parts of Ukraine.

Rich educational program waited for the seminar participants. Lectures on Jewish history and tradition, history and pedagogical concept of Yad Vashem, interdisciplinary aspects of the Holocaust history teaching, as well as about contemporary aspects of the topic told Noa Sigal (Yad Vashem), Dr. Illia Lurie (Jewish University), Dr. Arkadii Zeltser (Yad Vashem), Masha Polak-Rozenberg (Yad Vashem) and Dr. Mordehay Yushkovsky (Bar-Ilan University). Workshops on the Holocaust history teaching, considering the age peculiarities, the Holocaust study without eyewitnesses, aspects of honoring the memory of the younger generation were useful, as well as the topic “Polish Jewry in the interwar period”, held by Yad Vashem staff – Noa Sigal, Olha Duk, Miriam Ben Sandler, Faina Mushinska. Guided tours to the Yad Vashem Museum were extremely interesting (Dr. Aharon Shneer, Yad Vashem), The Children's Memorial and the Museum of Art (Ilona Angert, Yad Vashem), Yad Vashem archive (Alex Zengin), photo exhibitions “Memory flashes”, as well as Theodor Herzl Interactive Museum (Jerusalem, Israel) – founder of the World Zionist Organization. None of the seminar participants left indifferent to the meeting with Ms. Martha Goren, the Holocaust witness.
For their part, the seminar participants also prepared reports and presentations. Stanislav Kulchytskyi, Ph. D., professor read a lecture on: “The Holocaust reflection in higher and secondary school textbooks. Holocaust and Holodomor comparative analysis”. The following presentations were also made: “Interactive methods of the Holocaust history teaching. Participation in the project IwalkDnipro’ (Vlasova Natalia, Dnipro), “Study and research of the Holocaust history in Poltava region” (Tetiana Tatarina, Poltava), “The Holocaust studies in Kamianske Lyceum of new information technologies in the educational process and after-school work with students” (Anna Lebedeva, Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region), “Online textbook “Genocides of the first half of the 20 th century. The Holocaust”” (Alina Dyachenko, Khmelnytskyi), “The Holocaust history teaching in Ukrainian education system”, “The use of the Holocaust artwork during the lessons and after-class work” (Tetiana Sayyapina, Kharkiv region), “Disclosure of the Holocaust topic by theatrical means on the example of the play “Kaddish: Street to the sky …” (Valerii Nehmatov, Severodonetsk, Luhansk region), “The Holocaust topic in the projects of the National Museum of History of Ukraine in the Second World War” (Volodymyr Simperovych, Kyiv), “A program for teaching the history of genocide in higher education institutions: “Political and legal aspects of the 20 th century genocides” (Olha Golovina, Dnipro), “Project “Ukrainian-Jewish dialogue” (Taras Antoshevskyi, Lviv).
By the end of the seminar, participants received official certificates.
