PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On April 14, an online seminar for Polish and Ukrainian educators was held, organized by the Tkuma Institute together with the International Center for Auschwitz and Holocaust Education of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum (Oswiecim, Poland).

The opening of the seminar was addressed by the Head of Educational Programs of «Tkuma» Institute Iryna Piskareva, Head of Educational Programs of the International Center for Auschwitz and Holocaust Education Nataliya Tkachenko, Director of «Tkuma» Institute, member of the Board of Directors of UJE (Canada), member of the International Auschwitz Council (Poland) Dr. Igor Shchupak.

The event program covered a wide range of topics:

  • the Holocaust history in the context of Ukrainian-Polish-Jewish relations (Dr. Igor Shchupak);
  • Holocaust memorialization practices in post-war Ukraine (Dr. Yehor Vradii);
  • methods of local understanding of traumatic history through city walks, immersive excursions and museum pedagogy presented by Liana Blikharska, Tetyana Fedoriv and Viktoriia Mudrytska.

The seminar also presented the educational initiatives of «Tkuma» Institute and the experience of teaching the Holocaust history in Ukrainian schools, in particular from Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia region.

«Tkuma» Institute expresses its sincere gratitude to the International Center for Auschwitz and Holocaust Education for many years of fruitful cooperation, professional organization of the seminar, warm atmosphere and joint work on preserving historical memory.

The event ended with a lively discussion and exchange of experiences between educators from the two countries.
