PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

During July 03–07, 2017 “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” organized and conducted Summer School for History Teachers “World War II and the Holocaust History Studies: Methodology and Practice”. The event was conducted in Lviv, Drohobych and Zhovkva and gathered history teachers from all over Ukraine.

During the opening of the school the welcoming speeches were made by Kostiantyn Bakhanov, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Higher Education, Management of Educational Institution and Methodology of Teaching Social Science Disciplines of Berdiansk State Pedagogical University; Dr. Iegor Vradii, Head of Research and Museum Department of “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies; Dr. Yurii Mytrofanenko, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Secondary Education of Kropyvnytskyi Regional Institute of Advanced Teacher Training; Iryna Piskariova, Head of Educational Department of “Tkuma” Institute; Dr. Igor Shchupak, Director of “Tkuma” Institute and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”.

The scholars presented a number of extremely relevant reports on World War II and the Holocaust history, while teachers were able to share their methodological developments and researches on the Holocaust tragedy, Ukrainian resistance movement and other themes of World War II.

Prof. Kostiantyn Bakhanov; Dr. Iegor Vradii; Dr. Andrii Domaranskyi, Associate Professor of the Department of Geography and Geoecology of V. Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University; Ivan Dudych, Head of the Department of European Art of 19-21 c. of B. Voznytsky Lviv National Gallery of Arts; Dr. Svitlana Kaiuk, Associate Professor of the Department of History of Ukraine of O. Honchar Dnipro National University; Dr. Olha Kyryliuk, Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language of V. Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University; Dr. Yurii Mytrofanenko; Valentyn Rybalka, “Tkuma” Institute Research Associate; Dr. Iryna Starovoit, Associate Professor of the Department of Cultural Studies of Humanities Faculty of Ukrainian Catholic University; Liubov Tiahlo, Lecturer in Language Training Department of Dnipropetrovsk Medical Academy; and Dr. Igor Shchupak presented reports on different aspects of the Holocaust history in context of world history, historical memory, and history of Jewish people in modern time.

The summer school program included practical lesson tour “Jewish Past of Lviv”, conducted by Olha Lidovska, Head of Jewish Museum run by All-Ukrainian Jewish Charitable Fund “Hesed-Arie” and educational museum workshop “Interwar Drohobych through literature and art” at Bruno Schulz Museum.
